The play on Lord Jagannath, ’Bhagwaan Jagannath Katha’ finds its origin in ‘Skanda Purana’. It’s a very dramatic story about the appearance of Lord Jagannath along with his elder brother ‘Baldev’ and sister ‘Subhadra’ in a very special ‘Bhakt Vatsal’ form where all the 3 deities are seen without their hands and feet with large eyes and large lips… Why does the God take this unique form?
The 4 hour long play answers many such questions involving all the 9 rasas of ‘Natya Shastra’ !
There are many religious stories across the globe and they all are about the victory of good over evil but this is the only story where there is no ‘antagonist’ and the clash is between the 2 ardent devotees of the Almighty and yet it is an extremely dramatic story.
The play also weaves in very interestingly the philosophy of ‘Sanatan Dharma’ and ‘why the followers of Sanatan Dharma are idol worshippers - the play presents the profound spiritual logic behind it - our younger generation must know these scientific aspects of the eternal religion, hence this play.
Jai Jagannath ! Jai Baldev ! Jai Subhadra ! Jai Sudarshan !
